Holiday Decor

If you love decorating, you will get excited over the holidays. Fall quickly gives way to Halloween, then Thanksgivig. And before you know it, it's already Christmas and Hanukah after which, it's time to welcome the New Year. If you get overzealous, you will overspend and overexert yourself. Instead of enjoying the holidays, you will end up tired and stressed.

Start With the Basics

There are many routes you can take when decorating, but it's best to get your basics down before doing anything else. Opt for a clean look because adding lights, ornaments, and other festive decorations to an already elaborate room would overwhelm the senses. Stick to simple flokati rugs or add a single modern area rug for accent. Remember, you want your holiday theme to stand out so let it be the center of your decorating efforts.

Know What You Need

Are you entertaining guests all season long? Or is it just for Thanksgiving or Christmas? Knowing what to expect allows you to plan ahead and budget for the holidays. Make a list of all the parties and dinners that you will be hosting and prepare early. Since you know beforehand, you can prepare a little at a time. It is quite stressful if you try to do all at the same time. If possible, do your shopping online. Not only will you save on some of the good deals to be had, you also avoid the holiday crowds and just wait for your order at home.

Plan

You need to know what to do months in advance. Identify what you will need before you head out. The key word here is need. Visualize where everything will go. Also, account for everybody. Rearrange furniture meant for everyday into a setting that is more conducive to socializing. Consult websites and magazines for tips to get you through this challenging, yet extremely rewarding, time of year. Planning, organizing, and doing all the shopping out of season, well in advance, will save you precious time and money. Also, you get spared all the aggravation and frustration that is associated with the holiday rush.

Focal point decorating

Every room has one spot where all attention is initially drawn to. You know when you enter a room and you immediately focus on something? You have just been drawn to the rooms focal point. A neat trick in holiday dcor is finding a room's focal point and concentrating your decorating efforts on that one spot. Not only will you get maximum effect, you also save on unnecessary ornaments that will not get noticed anyway.

Accessorize

Pillows, candles, evergreen sprigs, flower arrangements, inexpensive holiday bulbs in lots of nooks and crannies add splashes of color and a festive ambiance. An attractively decorated home for the holiday season reflects the personality of the homeowner and will be the highlighted conversation piece at the next neighborhood party.

Pillows, candles, evergreen sprigs, flower arrangements, pine cones, and lots of holiday lights signifies a home decked out for the holidays and set the mood. A home that seems ready to welcome the holiday is a welcome sight and will be the talk of the town.
