Wonderful Item And A Great Cause - Best Gas Lawn Edger Critique
I was using my gas powered string trimmer as on edger until we purchased this last week. As I was growing up, my dad lived by gas powered equipment, so I was planning to buy a gas powered edger at some point in time, but I didn't want to fork over the $200 minimum needed.
I have a very long driveway and sidewalk so by the time I'm finished, my hold on fingers are tired out. I wore out an edge hog type 3.
Unless I'm overlooking the obvious, it's of little use to me. I find this edger does remain in the edger position when in use.
This B&D Hog Electric Edger gives excellent results, and it is very easy to operate. I'm retired now, and I've used several Gas and Electric edgers before. The edger did have a bit of trouble with this part. I could hear the motor struggling at times, and at one point smelled the classic burnt plastic smell.
Good thing I bought an extra blade up front. I'm very satisfied. I have been nothing less than rough with it (careful, it will chip your sidewalk/driveway into little pieces). Works like a charm and for $89? Some of these tips help me get done faster with the job. Keep the power cord over your shoulder so it doesn't fall out all the time. I started looking at gasoline powered edgers, but they were ridiculously expensive. That's when I stumbled upon this little beauty. It removed more grass and soil, which we swept away from the curb edge. Then we lowered the depth to 1" again, and with the edge guide still retracted, we placed it with the wheels on the curb side, and carefully avoiding the curb edge ran it along the edge.
The unit works fine and it has more power than my previous unit. I look forward to many years of service out of the LE750. He loves it. He says that it is much easier to handle than the neighbors gas one. My only advice is not to use it when the grass is remotely wet. When the grass is wet the part that you are edging the grass and dirt get caught between the blade and the cover.
It was ten dollars cheaper than the lowest retail price I could find locally and I did not have to pay shipping or taxes so it was a great deal all around. The best part is that I love this edger! My neighbor came over and used his yard blower to clean up some grass I'd left on the sidewalk using my string trimmer, to help retain the look. That's how neat the finish is on the lawn.
