Once upon a time decorating one's home was as simple as picking up the phone and calling a professional decorator. There are still those for whom this is the norm. For most people, though, hiring a decorator is a luxury they cannot afford. Give it some thought: how many of your friends live in houses or apartments that aren't decorated because they think that decorating is too expensive? The good news is that there are plenty of ways you can decorate without going over budget. This article has some tips for quick decorating at affordable prices.

Rearrange Your Furniture. Believe it or not sometimes decorating your home (or redecorating your home) could be as easy as putting your existing furniture into new positions. Furniture arrangement suggestions and hints can be found everywhere-start at the library and see what you can find! Your couch does not have to live at the edge of the room-move it closer to the middle! The bed does not have to be accessible from three sides-put it in a corner. Instead of focusing your family room around the television, focus it around a fireplace or coffee table. Put the spotlight on something besides the television. Let your cookery serve as kitchen decoration instead of hiding it away. Sometimes all you need to do is move stuff around to create a new decorating scheme.

Use your imagination! Why not decorate with ordinary household items? Why not hang your pots and pans on your kitchen walls so that they can be decorative as well as practical? Keeping your pots and pans on pegs means that you won't have to spend time looking for them.

Doing this makes you just like Julia Child! What about that quilt that has been handed down to you from your grandmother? Wouldn't it make a great wall hanging? There are no written rules that say quilts and blankets can only be used for warmth and bedspreads. Look around-what functional item can you display?

The best way to decorate your home is to practice some self control. Price isn't everything-inexpensive items are just as good as expensive items. Don't go hog wild with expensive galleries and showings. Go after the art and dcor that you like and that will fit in with your existing scheme. There are plenty of things already in your house that you can use as decorations! Use your imagination! Why not repaint a few old mixing bowls and use them decoratively around the house? Consider your first instincts and then ask yourself "how can I do that...but cheaper?"
